Get your skis on: the lifts at Piancavallo are open!

Every year, it is a matter of waiting and hoping and then suddenly the snow arrives in abundance and the lifts at the Piancavallo resort can start up. Plentiful snowfall and cold have allowed the ski season this year to kick off a little in advance and the village is busy.

We could not miss such a great opportunity and on the first Saturday in December we woke up at dawn to reach the ski area and be among the first to take to the snow. In this first weekend, the ski pass was half-price; a good incentive for us skiers. There are plenty of people as it is impossible to resist the call of the snow. Only some of the lifts open but the snow is beautiful and the cold is pungent but bracing. The sun is shining and the temperature is sparkling; a perfect climate for a run on skis.

The air is so clear that we have a beautiful view, with the mountains around us dusted with white, and from the highest peaks you can clearly see the reflection of the sea. Between sky and snow, at almost 1300 metres altitude, Piancavallo is the most popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. With family and friends it is wonderful by day, by night, with snow and without snow. A mass of ??events animates the resort, from the ski races for the sporty to the events in huts for party-goers. Even non-skiers can find a way to have fun at Piancavallo.

And for a regenerating break, do not miss the food and wine specialities offered by the restaurant on the ski slopes. It offers a cosy setting, young atmosphere and very friendly staff. Ideal for a simple aperitif, perfect for a complete lunch. The menu offers rustic dishes, typical of the mountain tradition. There is a wide selection of first and second courses and side dishes plus delicious desserts. The cuisine is linked to the local area and uses genuine products of Friuli.

Promoted with full marks. Don’t miss it!
