Aquileia, a treasure chest

There are two things that come to mind thinking about Spilimbergo: mosaic and photography. Now we can also add the “Le giornate della luce” Festival, an event dedicated to the photographer of cinema; that is, the director of photography.
The event, which has now reached its third edition, was born of an idea by Gloria De Antoni – author and television presenter of Friulian origin – and Donato Guerra – a teacher and the president of the Il Circolo association – was held in Spilimbergo from 10 to 18 June .
There were many events scheduled and lots of films, but also meetings with directors, exhibitions and training courses. Among the local contributions I liked the documentary about the Great War Isonzofront, my story, by Friulian director Massimo Garlatti Costa, for its sensitivity in describing and conveying the emotions of the protagonists.
The really special guest was Lorenza Mazzetti, a wonderful example of creativity and personal success, narrated perfectly in the autobiographical documentary Perché sono un genio. The nomination for best director of photography for the 2017 edition was Ferran Paredes Rubio, for the film Indivisibili.
The festival included a look at the past and offered the opportunity to see once again old, restored film from the Cineteca del Friuli. There was a special screening shared with film directors and film experts, including Babak Karimi, author and protagonist of Fish and Cats. They were attentive to and respectful of fragments of history imprinted on film and finally made available to the public, thanks to the donation of material by some private individuals and resulting from a careful restoration.
The ingredients are all for the adventure of this festival to continue; indeed, it was exactly the “tessera” missing from the varied “mosaic” of Spilimbergo's cultural offerings.
