Discovering Santa Margherita del Gruagno

Hallo from Polcenigo!
This year, the appointment with the FAI Autumn Day is taking place once again: a Sunday spent discovering the castles and beauties of the Pordenone area. All eyes will be on the natural gems, architectural pearls, and urban and historic jewels in the village of Polcenigo.
An opportunity to “recognize” towns through local history and traditions in a great choreography of colours and flavours to celebrate the autumn.
I was offered an opportunity that I was determined not to miss: an exclusive visit to this wonderful hamlet and a discovery of its charming buildings.
The theme of the event that the FAI Giovani Pordenone chose for Polcenigo was the aristocratic palaces and charm of other times. A unique opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and their historical and culturally significant places now restored and brought back to splendour.
There are four fairytale places in the streets of the historic centre that you should not miss.
PALAZZO SALICE SCOLARI WITH A VISIT OF THE GARDEN
The visit began in the suggestive setting of Palazzo Salice Scolari where an impressive piano performance was held.
Musical refinement and soft notes to start our Sunday with a good coffee, accompanied by the notes of the grand piano in the main drawing room of the piano nobile.
Leaving the palace, my curiosity was overwhelmed by the very special charm of the hidden garden at the back: a characteristic and original Italianate garden set on terraces, from which one can admire the village.
PALAZZO FULLINI ZAIA
In a flash I found myself exploring Palazzo Fullini Zaia, a typical eighteenth-century Venetian palace, whose doors were open to the public during the FAI Autumn Days.
A massive and impressive building that rises in the main square of Polcenigo, it is the most beautiful building in the little town.
CASTLE OF POLCENIGO
After a short walk in the woods I reached the castle perched high on its hill. The castle of Polcenigo stands on top of a hill that strategically dominates the entire valley. The view is magnificent and includes a fine panorama of the village and adjacent hills. My hard work was rewarded!
PALAZZETTO DIANA SANTAROSSA
As a grand finale, I had the privilege of visiting Palazzetto Diana Santarossa, one of the many historic buildings that enrich Polcenigo. During the Great War, it was occupied by Austro-Hungarian troops who unfortunately left some trace of their passage. The building is now completely restored. Antique furniture and the warmth of past times create a welcoming atmosphere. This is a home of elegant and evocative style.
Not to be missed!
