Lights and Sounds in Porto Vecchio in Trieste

Fitted in amid the events for the 49th Barcolana, the record-breaking regatta that fills the Gulf of Trieste on the second Sunday of every October, there was the opportunity to attend a sound and light show.

This is an experience that was well-known at Miramare Castle in the past, but had fallen into disuse for a while.

This time it took place inside the Porto Vecchio or Old Port where, accompanied by two exceptional narrative voices as well as those characteristic features of the region’s capital city – the Karst and the Bora –, it was possible to travel through the history of Trieste.

But not only, for apart from the history with special regard to the Austro-Hungarian years (Maria Theresa of Austria and her son Joseph II were also given a voice), there were topics covered such as geology, music, literature, theatre, and also the variety of religions and places of worship in the town.

The special feature of this show was the projection of the story on the walls of buildings, in this case on one of the buildings of Porto Vecchio, Warehouse 26.

The light and sound show is great for those who do not know the city but also for its citizens who, despite knowing the history of Trieste, have the opportunity here to see places that are not always accessible.

Almost thirty years old and Trieste-born, I have a dream of working with children with difficulties. I am curious by nature and always ready to try out new experiences, I am passionate about theatre and musicals above all. I like to look around and participate in the city’s cultural initiatives.
