Discovering Santa Margherita del Gruagno

The Dog Walker Club arranged a rather unusual outing with an excursion into an aquatic environment, and the account of this new experience was written in two hands... oops, I mean in eight paws by Dalton and Jo, two of our dishevelled Fox Terriers.
“Double woof, today, friends! Our humans, Christiana and Daniela have taken us to the Aquarium of Ariis di Rivignano, created and run by the Ente Tutela Pesca del Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Located within the Parco dello Stella, the place is magnificent: as soon as we arrived we stretched our legs a little on a stroll on the banks of the Stella River and we terriers were immediately attracted by the smells of all the wild animals living there.
With a little excitement we then entered the Aquarium where dogs are welcomed! It is not very big a place but modern, and in the interior we see a river flowing from the spring to the mouth, with the layout of landscapes typical of a high mountain torrent, the middle course in the plain, the area of ??the springs nearer the sea and the final stretch, characterised by the presence of brackish water.
We Fox Terriers were born to work “in the field”, hunting, so we’ve never seen fish! Well, do you know that you can see about forty of them here? We have seen an Arctic char, a riverine Brown trout and a Rainbow trout, a Common barbel, a Sturgeon and a fantastic Pike, as well as a Pumpkinseed, Mullet and many other inhabitants of the Friulian waters.
Outside, we have discovered that there is also a nature trail in what used to be a fish farm, with wooden walkways and bridges that allow you to “walk on water” and also observe the plants that characterise the area: water lilies and brandy bottles, as well as willows, oaks, reeds and bulrushes. A real paradise for we 4xpaws.
Before we left, we wanted to take another stroll on the banks of the Stella, observing the fishermen, and so we headed for Villa Ottelio-Savorgnan, where, half-hidden, we discovered a stone with the names of the real Romeo and Juliet, Luigi da Porto and Lucina Savorgnan, whose love story, that of lovers divided against their will, was told by Shakespeare.
What excitement for our humans! It seemed almost possible to hear old voices and whisperings, echoes of past life, laughter, tears, sighs, the jolly yells of children, barking of dogs and noise of carriages... and for a moment, we were transported into a distant age.
For us it was a wonderful day, one we wanted to share with you; a lick to everyone from Jo and Dalton, two little big explorer Fox Terriers!”
