Street art: the gorilla of Pordenone

The Pordenone gorilla is dead. A new mural has appeared on the grey and neglected walls of Vicolo delle Acque. And that is where lies the white gorilla, drawn by Davide Toffolo, a renowned cartoonist and mind behind the Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti.

The animal, which lies quietly along the Vicolo delle Acque, is a reference to one of the protagonists of Toffolo’s comic-strip book: Il re bianco. The work is dedicated to Copito de Nieve, the albino gorilla that died of cancer in the Barcelona  Zoo in after almost 40 years of “imprisonment”. The absolute difference: too human to be a beast and too animal to be a man. Using the walls of abandoned buildings as if they were large white sheets of paper, the artist has created a masterpiece of Pordenone street art. With this mural, he has “donated” to his city a burst of light amidst the grey of the buildings.

Colours invade the visual field. A special energy emerges from the painting that marks the rebirth of the narrow street and “carved out” a new desire on the wall to perceive the city with fresh eyes. A mural that has transformed this central street into a unique space. An open-air show.
