A beautiful sunny spring day, ideal for a pleasant walk along the network of trails in the comune of Attimis. The territory offers an enviable series of 30 km of trails connecting the little town and surrounding villages with the neighbouring municipalities, for a total of 14 mapped and well-maintained trails.
Many of these start from Attimis itself and from the village of Racchiuso and lead to Porzus, where one can visit the church of the Marian apparition and then continue to the Malghe where the Porzus massacre took place in 1943, which saw a number of partisans executed by a rival group. The location is now a national monument.
The area offers a great deal for the many enthusiasts of trekking attracted by enchanting but little-known places, and even includes some medieval history, with the remains of old castles, set in the midst of beautiful alpine and uncontaminated nature.
It is a shame that this corner of paradise, ideal for many enthusiasts, is little known, although it must be said that the Attimis tourist office has set up projects, efforts and initiatives, partly already realised and partly yet to be completed, to promote these natural beauties.
Now for instance, near the town hall, a panel has been erected showing all the 14 trails with the times required, height difference and difficulty in Italian and English. It offers a very useful and easy-to-read guide that will soon be accompanied by a display rack in which a map or pocket guide will be available to make it even easier to follow the trails.
