SHORTS - Film Festival
But Trieste’s culture also manifests itself through the presence of five important theatres that differentiate and complement each other's shows. There is opera at the Verdi, while prose, dance, but also and especially musicals are offered in the Politeama Rossetti’s programme. The Sala Tripcovich and the Teatro Bobbio-La Contrada, on the other hand, offer prose works that are comic, niche or simply sui generis. Rounding off the range of theatres on offer is the Teatro Stabile Sloveno (Slovensko stalno gledališc?e), a showcase for artists and performances from neighbouring Slovenia and Croatia, and the Teatro Miela Bonawentura, which has recently expanded and renewed its programme.
At this point, however, one should not fall into the trap and think Trieste is just cinema or theatre because Trieste’s cultural offer is also rich in events relating to literature and photography. Just consider the initiatives dedicated to children. For example, every year volunteers from “Nati per leggere” (‘Born to read’) organise reading days at the bathing establishments in the summer, and in libraries and other places in the city and Karst in the colder months.
MILLE OCCHI - Film Festival
In this regard, Triestebookfest, an emerging but very significant initiative, is a literature festival that has its second edition this year.
But the cultural offering of Trieste does not end here: every year, it is enriched with new initiatives and events for adults and children, which it would be a shame not to experience at least once.
- Scienze plus Fiction - November, Sala Tripcovich-Teatro Miela
- SHORTS - July, Piazza Verdi, with events at the Verdi and other venues offered by sponsors + Cinema Ariston
- MILLE OCCHI - September, Teatro Miela
- TRIESTE FILM FESTIVAL - January, with the last edition being held in the Teatro Miela, Sala Tripcovich and Magazzino delle idee.
