Flying with the acrobats of the sun

In July 2018, in Cividale del Friuli, a special place was inaugurated: the “Acrobati del Sole” [Acrobats of the Sun], a theme park about the beauty of falconry which promotes the culture of birds of prey.

Every day at 11am, until the end of October, you can witness the performance of magnificent birds of prey trained to free fly in a specially set-up arena. Merlino, Lupin, Archimede, Nikita and all the other raptors that live in the park (there are about twenty of them, including hawks, owls, buzzards, eagles and griffon vultures) amaze and enchant old and young, performing their majestic flight, sometimes flying very close to the public and always following with precision the orders of their loving falconers.

The show lasts for about 45 minutes, and is accompanied by an accurate and engaging commentary in which the falconer explains some of the features of the bird of prey that is about to perform. And at the end of the show, the two Eurasian eagle-owls, Morgana and Anacleto, are available for a souvenir picture with whoever wishes to take one!

Inside the park there is a cafe where you can eat and also a small, but well-equipped playground. The park also hosts music and theatre events, as well as re-enactments on horseback; the regularly updated program is available on their Facebook page.
