Military Hospital

After the Third Battle of the Isonzo, the sinkhole of the 15th Marksmen Regiment was used as first-aid station and local command post. Less than one year later, the Italian troops took Gorizia (August 1916) and the frontline was moved further on, leaving thus this sinkhole in a relatively safe position. From then onwards, the site used to accommodate a small military hospital, whose remains are still visible.

It is a relatively small structure, made of just three rooms. While observing its remains, visitors can figure out the original arrangement, in particular the location of the original surgery room. In fact, just one room is equipped with a sump for blood and water drainage and cleaning purposes.
Two inscriptions can be read on the walls: one is referred to the 15th Marksmen Command (after which the whole place is named), while the second bears the names of the physicians who used to work here.
