Descrizione
An international contemporary art exhibition born with the ambition to chart one of the most powerful and cross-cutting cultural phenomena of our time: the transformation of art into a global, urban, media-driven, and popular language.
Curated by Luca Bravo, promoted by Deodato Arte.
There are images we look at. And images that end up looking back at us, remaining with us for so long that they become part of our collective memory. Urban Legends tells the story of this conquest.
The exhibition journey spans over half a century of art and visual culture, connecting seemingly distant generations. From the revolution of Pop Art, which transformed the objects, faces, and symbols of consumer society into artistic material, to Street Art, which breaks the boundaries of traditional exhibition spaces and adopts the city as a site of expression and dialogue.
Warhol grasped the power of the serial image; Koons elevates everyday objects into monuments of desire; Haring invented an immediate and universal visual alphabet. With Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and Mr. Brainwash, the image instead becomes a tool for provocation, critique, and communication: it can appear on a wall and, just a few hours later, travel across the world. Alongside them, the visions of Angelo Accardi, Mr. Savethewall, and Richard Orlinski depict a present where the languages, references, and symbols of art history coexist and continuously influence one another.
The three floors of Palazzo Ragazzoni thus serve as three chapters of a single narrative. While the artists, eras, and mediums change, one fundamental question remains: when does a work stop belonging solely to art and become a definitive part of our culture?
Urban Legends begins here. From the mysterious moment an image enters our field of vision and, without us even realising it, decides to stay.
Whilst the twentieth century was the era of great ideologies, ours is perhaps the century of images. Today, the ultimate conquest is no longer just about securing a place in a museum. It is about securing a place in the memory of millions of people.
