During the Christmas season, the village of Sutrio is transformed into a fascinating open-air Christmas trail, inviting visitors to wander between its hamlets and discover a series of handcrafted nativity scenes tucked away in picturesque courtyards, arcades and ancient cellars, where the art of nativity scene making blends with the authentic atmosphere of the Friulian mountains.
Enhancing the experience are the Christmas craft market, themed creative workshops, performances and activities for children, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the magic of the festive season.
Among the most remarkable works is the Nativity Scene of Teno, an extraordinary creation by master craftsman Gaudenzio Straulino, known to all as "Teno". This masterpiece created over thirty years of painstaking work.
The exhibition also features a work of outstanding artistic value: the 18 statues of the Vatican Nativity Scene, carved by eleven master woodcarvers from Friuli Venezia Giulia and displayed in St. Peter's Square during Christmas 2022. A unique opportunity to admire up close a work that showcased the finest Friulian craftmanship at the heart of the Vatican.
An event that combines culture, tradition and the Christmas spirit, offering visitors an authentic and memorable experience.
The exhibition route extends along the main streets of Sutrio and in the hamlets of Nojaris and Priola.
