The Handel Project, inaugurated last year, continues in the new 2025/2026 Music Season with the presentation of a score never before performed in our Theater.
For the first time, the oratorio Athalia, the third by the great Baroque composer, will be performed in 1733. A highly prestigious work with a luxurious orchestration featuring horns, trumpets, and timpani, Athalia surprises with its choruses, the variety of its arias, and the powerful drama that accompanies the adventures of the protagonist, the Queen of Judah, amidst premonitory dreams, prophecies, and conspiracies. For the occasion, this splendid musical composition will be performed by the Amsterdam Baroque Choir & Orchestra, a group returning to Udine fifteen years after their last performance at our theater, and by the expert craftsmanship of Ton Koopman, the Dutch conductor and harpsichordist who shaped the history of early music performances during the twentieth century.
