Vito d'Asio
Vito d'Asio, situated at 550 metres above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Asio, extends on a plateau from which one dominates the whole plain of Friuli.
The origins of the name Vito are rather uncertain, but the exact etymology is probably vicus (village), hence Vito. As far as the name Asio is concerned, its origin is still unknown.
The first information about the municipality dates back to 1260. The history of the territory, however, has much older origins: in fact, it is known that, between 900 and 950, Mount Asio, which at those times was all covered in forests, served as a shelter for the inhabitants of the near plain who, during the Hungarian raids, fled from the atrocities of the barbarians.
Particularly interesting is the sulphur spring of Anduins: the healing properties of its waters have been known since time immemorial.
