Chions

The municipality of Chions comprises the hamlets of Basedo, Taiedo, Villotta (municipal seat) and the localities of Torrate, Villafranca, Villalta, Villutta.

Chions is a typical municipality characterised by evolved farming, which is undergoing discrete industrial development as well.

The area of Chions preserves in the orthogonal structures of its streets and fields the unmistakable signs of the centuriation of the Countryside of Julia Concordia, carried out by the Romans from 41 B.C. between Livenza and the Tagliamento. Among the decumani and cardines that made up a regular pattern, the municipality of Chions has preserved its rural character to the present day.

Among the historic and artistic buildings you will find the parish churches dating back to the 14th-15th centuries. They all feature precious frescoes, essentially of the school of Bellunello, which can be dated back between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century.

Moreover, you will see the tower of the ancient castle of the Sbrojavacca in Torrate, pulled down at the beginning of the 19th century, dating back to the Middle Ages.
