Battery of Colàt Hill

Colàt Hill is located north-west of the village of Pinzano and can be easily reached following indications for the castle nearby. This 280m height was included in the 1908 defensive project along with Mt. Ragogna and, therefore, the following year was provided with four 149mm guns, a powder magazine, a defensive structure and access road, which we still follow to reach the top.

The military mule track, on the left side of the main road, still bears the old kerbstones and climbs uphill until it reaches an opening after the first bend, where you can see a number of reserves. Follow the track and climb all the way up to the summit, where you find the remains of the artillery battery, a multi-level underground powder magazine connected through a 6.5m deep lift, some blockhouses and a stone entrance.
The underground powder magazine consisted of a room excavated in the rock, therefore protected from enemy fire. Given the size of the cave and the two reserves, they could easily accommodate ammo reserves for the cannons as well as countless bullets.
All these installations can be fully visited. The site is completed by a fountain, a guard post, a secondary mule track and defensive barbed wire.
