Zita chapel

At 1515 metres ASL, on the trail leading to the summit of Mt. Little Miezegnot, you can visit Zita Chapel, a small church built by the Styrian soldiers of the 10th Infantry Regiment. The chapel, designed by Lieutenant Kielmannsegg, was built in 1917 on the site of an old Alpine
cemetery.
The chapel was dedicated to Zita of Bourbon, the new Empress, wife of Karl I, who had taken over following the death of Franz Joseph, his granduncle.

This small church is built in gothic style, with a single door which reached through five steps. The pitched roof is typical of this area, usually affected by heavy snowfall during the winter, while the interior features a small altar preceding two crucifixes. It is an original construction that miraculously survived all the catastrophes of the twentieth century. Restored in 1984, it now hosts an annual ceremony organised by the Voluntary Firemen of Valbruna on August 15th to honour all soldiers who fell in battle.
