Topolò is an exotic destination. Not because it has beaches or strange animals, but because of the supernatural aspect experienced by all those who visit it. It is a unique experience, an everlasting border story. Your first steps into the town immediately reveal the abandonment suffered over the years and trigger amazement, a sense of transcendence that will constantly accompany you. It is a village whose medieval resonance is immediately felt, from the pedestrian paths between the houses to the narrow slanting streets covered with stones and grass.
To reach Topolò, there are two routes, which can be combined in a round trip. The first is the simplest: starting from Udine, you can cycle along the FVG3 and 4 cycle path to get to Cividale del Friuli, crossing fields and cycle bridges. A stop in the ducal city is a must for an ice cream or an aperitif. The uphill ride to Topolò is short but challenging. Thanks to the many trees, you will keep cool, but you won’t give a bad impression of yourself even if you take a few breaks or push your bike on foot.
The alternative route, if you have a mountain bike, is the old mule track that connects Topolò to the other “mountain” hamlets of the Natisone Valleys
