La ricerca pittorica di Markus Wagenhofer si concentra sul dialogo tra architettura, storia e identità culturale, con particolare attenzione al legame tra Vienna e Trieste. Le sue opere, sospese tra figurazione e astrazione, esplorano la relazione emotiva tra l’uomo e lo spazio
che lo circonda, soprattutto quello antropizzato, tra Danubio, Alpi e Adriatico.
