In questa commedia brillante della tradizione emiliana vediamo il dottor Balanzone desideroso di prendere moglie. La prescelta è la figlia di Sandrone, la bella Lisetta. Al padre vengono offerti un mucchio di quattrini per la mano della giovane. Il nostro sarebbe felicissimo di intascare la somma ma Lisetta è innamorata di Fagiolino il quale appresa la notizia escogita un piano. La strega Gertrude sarà colei che risolverà l’intricata faccenda… il finale è una divertente sorpresa.
