DI PRAMPERO

DI PRAMPERO SLOPE: WHERE SKIING BECOMES LEGEND

Where the Julian Alps plunge into the valley and speed meets history, an iconic slope was born: Di Prampero, the pride of Tarvisio and the home of Italian speed. A track designed to make amateurs dream and champions’ tremble.

From heroic beginnings to a world-class slope

🔸 1958 – The adventure begins
A pioneering gondola from Valbruna to Mount Lussari brings the first dreamers up high. From there, down to Camporosso, then back again to Valbruna… with the shuttle. Skiing was pure passion.

🔸 1982 – The Lussari S.p.A. challenge
A new lift relaunches the resort, but the company goes bankrupt. Only in 1993 does Promotur step in—with clear ideas and plenty of grit.

🔸 2000 – The real Di Prampero takes shape

Luciano Lazzaro during construction of the slope

On December 29, the new lift from Camporosso opens. In the same year, the slope is built—designed by Luciano Lazzaro and constructed by Wieser of Campo Tures—created for both tourism and international racing. At first, artificial snow covered only the two final walls, but the vision was clear: to make Friuli’s mountain great.

🔥 2005 – The fire that couldn’t stop a dream
On November 8, 2005, a fire destroys the gondola’s top station. For many, it seemed like the end. But not for Tarvisio. With the resilience typical of mountain people, a miracle happened: by January 20, 2006, the lift reopened. A record-breaking rebirth. Di Prampero lived on—stronger than ever.

Speed, technique, spectacle: recognition and upgrades for international events

🔹 2001 – Safety upgrades & FIS homologation
Ahead of hosting the 2003 Winter Universiade, the slope was secured according to FIS standards. The homologation process was strongly supported by Helmut Schmalzl, former coach of the Italian national team and later FIS Race Director for men’s speed. In his honor, one curve on the slope (just before the mid-station) was named “Curva Schmalzl”.

🔹 2002–2012 – Ten years of adrenaline
  • 3 Women’s World Cups
  • Over 60 Europa Cup races
  • 2002 Junior World Championships
  • 2003 Winter Universiade
Di Prampero established itself on the international circuit: the perfect mix of gradient, speed, and visibility.

🔹 2005 – First FIS inspection for the World Cup
The technical inspection was carried out by Kurt Hoch and Jan Tischhauser (FIS), who recommended a variant to the course. Built in 2006, the FIS Variant made the slope even safer and more competitive.
