The Val Alba Regional Nature Reserve extends over 3000 hectares and contains a remarkable example of
an almost unspoilt mountain environment situated in the eastern part of the southern Carnic Alps, adjacent to the Julian Alps and Prealps.
The valley is easy reachable through three suggestive villages clinging to the mountain: Dordolla, Pradis and Ovedasso. Trough the lot of paths in the Val Alba Regional Nature Reserve, adapt for everybody, it is possible to discover, dipped in nature, some sign of human activities such as military wreck of the first World War and the old rural architectures and wreck of the old local "
forni di calce".
Furrowed by rio Alba and rio Simon, it features spectacular rocky ridges, waterfalls, crystal clear torrents and untamed woods, as well as wreckages from military action which took place immediately after the First World War. This area
is home to ungulates but also a thoroughfare for large carnivores from Slovenia.
At relatively low altitudes the vegetation consists of manna-ash and hop-hornbeam, as well as black pine which colonizes the particularly steep rocky terrains, while the wetlands in the gorge are populated by badgers. There is also an important, albeit
limited distribution of floristic species such as white buttercups, Julian poppies and lilies.
