The eagle protecting the exceptional pools

I found it interesting that in 2014, The Guardian, a well-known English newspaper, wrote about the Pozze Smeraldine of Tramonti di Sopra. I knew nothing about this place, even if there was a photo of me as a child at the Lake of Tramonti.  And yet I'd been so close to them.

You can easily reach the Pozze Smeraldine from Tramonti di Sopra following a well-signposted road at an easy pace, just the way I like it. It's really a walk suited to everyone, young and old. And if you have four-legged friends like me, great; you can take them with you. Once you reach the crossroads you can either descend to reach the pools directly and even have a nice swim, or walk up a path that ends right above the pools; from there, the view is breathtaking.

Okay, I've told you about these incomparable pools now. But the eagle? Where is it? To find the eagle you need a whole lot of curiosity. The real explorer... explores!
It's a bit of a walk to see the eagle, following a marked path.  You arrive at the abandoned village of Frassaneit, and there you can first catch sight of this marvel. The eagle I'm talking about is big, very big; so big that it wouldn't fit in any cage. In fact, she's exceptional too, not only because of her size, but also because she's made of stone. It's called Aquila del Frascola. Can you imagine how cool it would be to say that you swam in emerald waters protected by a large eagle? Gems of FVG.

A nice time to visit the Val Tramontina is during the Pitina Festival. The eagle is hungry, it  has to eat something local and traditional! It's a connoisseur; you have to trust it and try.

A beautiful day in Val Tramontina combines unrivalled places, a pleasant walk, unique animals and flavours to try. And if you are really a top explorer, come close, I'll tell you a secret:  there's even a lion hiding in these places. Whereee?! I'll give you a hint.

In Tramonti di Sopra you will find the IAT-Pro Loco Tramonti di Sopra office; they are knowledgeable and will tell you where to start off on your exploration.  There are so many walks to do here, for any level of fitness and for any level of curiosity. So, what are you waiting for?
