Autumn atmospheres at high altitudes

Autumn atmospheres at high altitudes

We always hear those who love high altitudes say, "Mountains are beautiful in all seasons", and one thing must be said: they are right!
We know that summer and winter are the most popular seasons and spring is always eagerly awaited since days get longer and meadows begin to flower. But, today, I would like to tell you about autumn, a "mid-season" that knows no middle ground: either you love it or you hate!

But when it arrives with its explosion of colours, it does not leave you, or the most ardent supporters of summer, indifferent...
I found these bright and shimmering colours among the wooded ridges, paths and meadows of the Val Resia, along trail no. 643 that goes from Stolvizza to the Igor Crasso mountain refuge at an altitude of 1665m.

The trail requires you to have done a bit of training because the difference in altitude is more than 1000m, but there are no particular difficulties and when tackled in the afternoon, it offers you incredibly impressive views and sensations among its woods of birch and larch trees.

The hike normally takes about 3h and you can make a slight detour to visit a trench from the Great War, and then almost immediately get back onto the main trail.
The entire area is home to many small settlements. Some have only a few fascinating ruins, whereas others are still inhabited today, probably during the summer period.
Getting to the mountain refuge is an exciting experience and an achievement. It remains hidden until you get to the last bend, almost concealed near the Buia fork, and then it suddenly appears in all its quiet existence, embraced by the peaks of the Julian Alps.

It is now sunset, and before entering for a rest, we feast our eyes a little more on the last warm reflections of the sun, awaiting the night that will give us the most amazing starry skies and the most beautiful sunrise that you can admire on any autumn morning...
