Discovering the Sette Picche in Val Gleris, snowshoes at the ready
One sunny January morning, we leave for Pontebba and go by car to Studena Alta, Frattis, towards the Ristoro “Alle Sette Picche” restaurant. We reach Val Gleris, and a magical landscape appears: cross-country ski trails that pass through the woods, and in the distance, the majestic snow-capped Sette Picche mountains, kissed by the sun. At the restaurant, we rent our snowshoes, given the fresh snow, and set off to discover the landscape. There are two routes to follow: the fox or the bear. The fox route is the most beautiful, reaching the foot of the mountains, while that of the bear goes into the woods.
So let’s follow the various signs with the image of the fox and start snowshoeing. The surrounding snow is white and untouched, making the landscape even more magical. The first stretch crosses the woods, and immediately we notice the footprints of roe deer and some other wild animal on the fresh snow. Even though it won’t be easy to catch a glimpse of them, there is always a chance. Step after step, we emerge from the woods to wonderful scenery, the majestic Sette Picche kissed by the sun. The snow shines, and the warmth of the sun’s rays makes the walk very pleasant. We stop to take photographs and sit on the snow to contemplate the silence and beauty of the landscape. Highly recommended! The route climbs for a few kilometres along the valley and is also suitable for those who are not used to climbing. It is 4.5 km long with an elevation difference of 175 metres and is ideal even for children!
Bring a backpack with sandwiches for lunch with a view or treat yourself to a meal in the restaurant, which offers delicious, typical cuisine.
