Church of Sant'Eufemia

[14. - 16. centeuries]

The current building dates back to the 14th century. The date 1347 is engraved on the right side of the church; a document testifies that it was consecrated in 1356. It underwent numerous modifications, as evidenced by inscriptions from 1510 (on the door) and 1536, on the capital of a column in the northern nave. The division into two irregular naves dates back to this period and it seems that, before 1500, the building had a different orientation.
The rectangular hall with exposed beams ends in a square apse with a cross vault. On the top of the façade is a recently redone belfry window. At the front of the building is an added portico with two large pointed openings. On the right side is a lateral door topped by a non-original hanging roof. Inside, there is a fresco depicting the Madonna with Child and Saints dated 1512 and attributed to Giampaolo Thanner, and two altar pieces: one depicting Saints Valentine, Sebastian, and Blaise by Giovanni Battista Grassi (1555?), and the other with Saints Sylvester, Stefano, and Margaret attributed to a Friulian painter of the 17th-18th century.
In the past, the church housed the prestigious 14th-century wooden statue of Saint Eufemia, now at the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art in Udine: a polychrome sculpture created by a Friulian master influenced by Venetian-Lombard production and masters from beyond the Alps.
