In
1512, a church dedicated to the
Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption was built on the hill of
Monrupino. It later became the present Sanctuary.
Nestled in the Karst rock, the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Monrupino is a hidden gem in the Karst region. Captivating and full of spirituality, it allows visitors to experience the history, culture and architecture of the Karst along with the other buildings on the Monrupino Rock while enjoying the breathtaking views.
This is where
"Karst Weddings" are celebrated at the end of August in alternate years, an event steeped in local history and culture.
Not far from the Sanctuary visitors can also explore the
Karstic House (which is also one of the sites of the Karstic Wedding ritual).
