Among shepherd huts and peaks

It all starts in Pietratagliata, a small hamlet of Pontebba: driving along the road towards Località Buric, you turn right, taking the only road that leads to Mount Poccet (1,517 metres) and Schenone (1,950 metres).
Once you reach the first stop, you come across the homonymous Malga, “AgriMalga Poccet”, run by the Vuerich family from the area. Here you can taste appetizers, first and second courses and their homemade dessert or tart. From here, apart from the tranquillity, you can enjoy the landscape and the view of Mount Zuc dal Bor. Continuing on the forest road, you reach the Jeluz shelter, where there is a branch in the route to descend into the hamlet of San Leopoldo (Pontebba) or climb to the summit of Schenone. After an hour and a half of walking on the CAI 601 path, you can sign the attendance book placed under the cross that establishes the arrival at the top of the mountain. Nearby you can also see the remains of some military shelters of the First World War.
Alternatively, experts of mountain walking can take the CAI 601 path from the start in Località Buric.  Be careful not to take the CAI 601 / A path halfway up the route because at the end of the path, the bridge that used to connect it to Pontebba was destroyed following the flood of 2003, and therefore, it is no longer accessible.

Where to stay

Enrico Cappellaro

I am Enrico, born and raised in Udine. Almost two years ago, I moved to Pontebba.
I am very active and always on the go. Nature, mountains, curiosities are my three mantras. I like to photograph the places I visit and discover the history that the mountains and the Friuli people preserve.
