Snowshoes in Val Bartolo, Camporosso and Tarvisio

Last winter’s abundant snowfall was an invitation to head for the hills and put on snowshoes for a great walk on the freshly fallen snow. The right day presented itself in all its splendour and I set off in the car towards Tarvisio with my friend Sabina and her faithful companion Duke. Shortly after the village of Camporosso, at a roundabout I turned left and joined the road that leads to the beginning of Val Bartolo, identifiable by the roadside sign bearing the inscription Siete nella Foresta di Tarvisio (You are in the Forest of Tarvisio). We left the car in a small car park on the side of the road, which continued unpaved from here on, and the further I walk, the more snow there is, firmer and deeper, and the view takes on a dazzling white hue, helped by the sun’s reflection. After about 4 km, we reached the first huts and the valley takes up the space it deserves in the mountains, appearing in all its beauty, with small huts and wooden cottages resting on the white and still immaculate snow of the night before. We continue for about 2 km, reaching Sella Bartolo at almost 1200m above sea level in Austrian territory, and here we find signs indicating the nearby peaks reachable by continuing our walk: on the left Monte Acomizza and on the right Monte Goriane. Continuing in the direction of the Goriane, we reach a last hut where we decide to stop as the track here becomes a path that climbs into the shade of the undergrowth; it’s a shame to leave the rays of the sun on that wonderful day which had accompanied us until then. The return is all downhill and the dipping of the sun shows us the valley with its lights and constantly changing colours. The excursion is simple and safe, so you can do it with children and dogs.

I am a dynamic engineer, practitioner of extreme sports such as ski-mountaineering and mountaineering, but I also love endurance such as cycling and triathlon. With the soul of a motorcyclist, I have an unbridled passion for the mountains and I am a lover of dogs, in fact, my Duke always accompanies me.
