Cinema and screenplay while walking

These are the key words of the project realised by the Associazione Culturale Mattador of Trieste, which has been organising the unique "Mattador Prize" for years, a unique award aimed at young screenwriters and the promotion of new talents in the field of film writing. As of this year, the award includes a very special training period. Thanks to the collaboration with Visionaria of Siena, the winners of the competition are given the opportunity to develop the project that is not by chance called “Visions in movement - The film school without chairs” by following a moving training process. Isabella Aquino and Ludovica Mantovani are the winners of the new edition that saw them as protagonists of a unique adventure, that of walking 70 km on foot, starting from Trieste and arriving at Aquileia. Following them was a real troupe of directors, sound engineers, composers, actors and actresses, producers and set designers. This workshop in motion had a precise mission: to train in a free and spontaneous way, testing talent through real experiences. In other words, by adopting an entirely informal method. The choice of the route also sought to inaugurate a new trail for pilgrimages, inspired by the more famous Via Francigena. A bit like the FVG Social Ambassadors, Ludovica and Isabella also visited places, and discovered the history and local culture, moving at a slow walking pace, to capture images and emotions that they then translated into creative writing. The Karst with the old First World War trenches was the starting point for Isabella’s project, while Ludovica chose Grado and its lagoon, collecting fascinating testimonies from the local community. This on-the-road adventure through the landscapes of Friuli on the part of the two young video makers contributes to enhancing further the image of Friuli Venezia Giulia as a land of “film sets”, equipped with significant local resources. Suffice it to think of the presence here  of skilled professionals who have chosen cinema as their profession. Of course, Isabella and Ludovica will still have some way to go, but the opportunity to realise a project will be a milestone for their artistic future. This initiative demonstrates how the new generations can find ideas and job opportunities while remaining in their territory of origin.

Where to stay

I'm a slow tourist, with a backpack and map at my fingertips. I love cinema and old movies. I collect photos and extraordinary stories of ordinary people. Friuli is a mix of plain, sea and mountain, where special places are just around the corner.
