Discovering Santa Margherita del Gruagno

I often look for places in the region where you can spend a day in peace and quiet in which to recharge the batteries a bit. Today I went for a walk as far as Sauris, following the road that from Tolmezzo passes through Ampezzo and climbs up here to the highest village in Friuli, skirting the beautiful reservoir located just below.
Walking to Sauris, you literally take a plunge into the past: there are stables, houses, small hamlets that are the same as a hundred years ago, in a silence that calms the soul. And on the way, you can admire the beautiful mountains that stand on the horizon like the majestic Monte Bivera. If you leave the village and head along one of the many impeccably marked trails, then the panorama offers glimpses of a rare and unspoiled beauty.
Ending the day in one of the inns of the village, tasting a plate of its famous sliced meats and cheeses, together with the excellent craft beer that is produced here, will make the day unforgettable.
So long, Sauris; we’ll soon be back!
