I left home intrigued by the hanging bridge inaugurated just a year ago, but which has already seen a record number of visitors, attracted also by its proximity to Pordenone, which is only half an hour from here. Access to the bridge comes from the two side, one at Barcis in Ponte Antoi, the other at Andreis in Bivio Molassa. However you want to reach it, from both points the walk is short and easy. You walk along the track of the old Valcellina road transformed into a pedestrian and cycle path located within the largest and spectacular canyon of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Here steep rocky cliffs dominate the landscape, but not the Cellina torrent, which remains the undisputed king of this valley and Nature Reserve within the Friulian Dolomites Park, where it has made its way through the rocks, sculpting deep grooves and leaving an emerald-coloured trace, the unmistakable colour of its waters.
The bridge is long and suspended, taking the form of a metal structure with steel cables and steps. I put on the climbing helmet and harness provided by the custodian at the entrance, and pick up the necessary instructions to enjoy the experience in total safety. Ready, I climb on to the ridge, contemplate the bridge and timidly take my first steps and then carry on to the opposite end.
I stop and breathe and look back.
I feel I have experienced a unique emotion.
Today nature has astonished me with another wonder and from the height of the hanging bridge I have been able to admire it from a truly privileged point of view.
