Ruda

The name of the chief town, of the ancient Riuda, according to recent historical studies, is probably of Germanic origin, but we cannot exclude that, in a more remote period, the name may have derived from the Germanic language of the Lombards.

The situation of the territory of Ruda at that time justifies the meaning of "tillage, deforestation" or of "marshy fields", which should correspond to the term Riuda.

The town was presumably founded by the Lombards in the 7th century and, afterwards, suffered serious devastation by the Hungarians.

The quiet of the site is an ideal condition for the nesting of many species of birds.

In the territory of Ruda you will also find the Castle (Palazzo D'Angeri - Pilo di Boyl) and Palazzo Antonini Belgrado in the hamlet of Saciletto, the Commenda di San Nicolò di Levata in the hamlet of San Nicolò and the Parco della Rimembranza in the hamlet of Perteole.
