Doberdò del Lago
Located on the Gorizia Karst, 92 metres above sea level, Doberdò del Lago can be discovered through the many itineraries that stretch across the Regional Reserve of the Lakes of Doberdò and Pietrarossa.
The Lake of Doberdò is one of the rare examples of lakes with no surface rivers: it draws water from the resurgences and the underground rivers.
The oldest traces of settlements in Doberdò del Lago date back to prehistory and consist of the castellieri (fortified boroughs), which are combined with the traces left by the First World War.
From the town, with short hikes one can reach the important prehistoric site of Mount Castellazzo and Casa Cadorna, a war ruin close to mountain faces that are ideal for climbing.
