Buttrio


Buttrio dates back to the VIII century B.C.

Ruled by the Langobards up to the invasion of Carlo Magno, between 738 and 960, the area underwent many invasions from the Avari populations to the.

In the XIII century, this area was governed first from the Counts of Gorizia and then by the Lords of Buttrio.

In 1306 a fight between the Patriarchate and the Counts of Gorizia finished with the storming of the Castle of Buttrio, that was later destroyed.

In 1411 the Hungarian invasions devastated the area and, in 1415 the Lords of Buttrio were definitively dispossessed.

The local authority of Buttrio was born in 1811; it was annexed to Italy on August 11th, 1866.
