Lestizza
Lestizza lies on a plain area, few kilometers at southwest of Udine.
The name "Lestizza" comes from the first inhabitants of the area called "Gens Titia", an ancient and renowned Roman family.
Later the word changed to "Lis Tities" and is now "Lestizza".
However it was mentioned for the first time only in 1174.
Lestizza was for a long time under the Patriarchs' domination when this area was populated with Slavonic people who later melted with previous original inhabitants.
In 1300 the village became a fee of the Counts of Gorizia, but it always depended on the Lords of Varmo, who were the vassals of the Counts of Gorizia.
The barbaric populations, that in many times invaded the region, sacked in those occasions also Lestizza.
