TOP EVENTS GORIZIA
Border town atmosphere with fabulous views over hilly countryside
Gorizia has the air of a real border town. In Piazza Transalpina, which was physically divided by a wall until 2004, you walk with one foot in Italy and the other in Slovenia.
The Mediaeval castle is a jewel, as are the streets around it. From the castle there are views over the whole town, with its harmonious blend of Mediaeval, Baroque and nineteenth century architecture, and the gentle rolling hills beyond.
Museums and parks in the “Nice of the Adriatic”
The Hapsburg bourgeoisie loved Gorizia and its mild climate, so much so that the town came to be known as the“Nice of the Adriatic”. The parks, such as the Parco Piuma on the river Isonzo and the Palazzo Coronini Cronberg park (with trees from all over the world), are delightful, and there is a choice of museums, including the quite unique Fashion and Applied Arts Museum and the Great War Museum.
