An area of international value inhabited by many waterfowl species, on sandbanks, beaches and in canals.
The Valle Cavanata Regional Nature Reserve extends in the more oriental side of the Grado lagoon and is reachable from the town thanks to the breathtaking bicycle path.
This area, of international value, before being declared a protected area, the whole valley was dedicated to fishing and hunting. Nowadays it is a real paradise for bidwatching: in fact, between beaches and host of sandbanks, a lot of water fowl species live here, and find here the optimal environment conditions for stop and nesting. Proper itineraries give you the possibility to observe them in their natural habitat.
The Valle Cavanata Regional Nature Reserve communicates with the open sea through locks and is criss-crossed with canals and watercourses skirted by woods and clearings where some animals' species find refuge.
