The enchantment of the lakes of Friuli Venezia Giulia – let the magic of the purest of waters and local legend work on you!

The many lakes of the verdant Friuli Venezia Giulia region provide an ideal holiday solution for visitors on the lookout for relaxation, peace and tranquillity. Holidaymakers will also find many itineraries for excursions and walks amid the wonders of nature.

The region features just two laghi carsici, lakes Doberdò and Pietrarossa. Laghi carsici are lakes produced by the filling of old limestone karstic depressions or sinks. The other lakes, such as lakes Fusine, Predil or Bordaglia, are glacial in origin or man-made, including the charming lakes Barcis, Sauris and Verzegnis.

Lago di Cavazzo, the largest of Friuli's natural lakes (flanked by three municipal districts), and the alpine lake Volaia are also well worth visiting. Two refuges (one, Italian, and the other, Austrian) face each other across the waters.

These marvellous locations host very many activities. Fishing and bird watching are popular activities, as well as hiking and cycling (the routes take in the marvels of Friuli's landmarks). The more adventurous visitors are advised that free-climbing, paragliding, canoeing, sailing and windsurf facilities are also available. In a word - something for everybody!
