Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region rich in towers and fortresses, castles and fortified palaces

Not only castles located on snow-white cliffs dropping sheer to the sea, in the Trieste Riviera, such as the castles of Miramare and Duino, or castles surrounded by springs such as the castles of Strassoldo, in the lowlands of Friuli, but also the multitude of fortresses on the hills: from the top of the hills it was possible to control the enemies' arrival and communicate thanks to smoke signals and secret tunnels. Nowadays, instead, these castles protect enchanted villages and corners, where time seems to have stopped. And from there, you can sweep infinite landscapes.

As, for example, in the castle of Colloredo di Monte Albano, where the writer Ippolito Nievo wrote "Confessions of an Italian", or in the castle of Villalta of Fagagna, where you can admire one of the most well-preserved manor of the region. The castles of Ragogna and Rive d'Arcano extend in mysterious recesses, where nature gives strong suggestions. Besides the castles of Cassacco, Susans in Majano and Fontanabona in Pagnacco, where you can admire a landscape of smooth hills.

In Osoppo, then, there is a fortress, declared national monument from 1923, thanks to its richness in finds dating back centuries and centuries.
All the castles of Friuli Venezia Giulia are linked in an pleasant tourist itinerary named "The ham and castles' roads".
